Moorabbin Garden Build & Ongoing Care

A staged landscape build, then regular care to keep it looking its best

Project Overview

This Moorabbin property shows both sides of what we do: we built the garden in stages, and our maintenance team has looked after it ever since.

Stage one (May 2025) focused on the rear and side of the house. We lifted old pavers and retaining sleepers, replaced tired soil with a fresh 3-way blend and planted new beds. Bluestone steppers were laid through the planting, staggered hardwood batten screens around 2m tall were built and painted for privacy, a mesh frame went up on the boundary fence for a climbing vine, and drip irrigation was connected to the rain tank via a solenoid valve.

Stage two (December 2025) transformed the front garden once the owner had completed the demolition. We imported fresh soil and compost across roughly 55m² of garden beds, planted to the design, installed corten steel edging around a new circular lawn, laid steppers and a small brick path using bricks salvaged from the demolition, and ran around 180m of drip line plus a lawn sprinkler off the existing irrigation controller.

Ongoing Care

Since the build, our team has visited regularly to keep the garden healthy. The owner prefers a relaxed, natural look over clipped formality, so we prune softly: the Lamb’s Ears are left to spill over the edging, and the Westringias are kept loose rather than trimmed into tight balls.

Our garden maintenance service
  • Weeding beds and ground covers such as thyme and native violets
  • Lawn feeding and weed control
  • Mowing and edging the nature strips
  • Feeding garden beds with slow-release fertiliser and seaweed tonic
  • Snail control for Lamb’s Ears and Ligularia
  • Topping up mulch across all beds
  • Seasonal planting, including Virginia creepers, Russian sage and new pool-side planting
  • Checking the irrigation and burying drip line

Challenges

Each area had its own challenges: window beds hemmed in by old pavers and retaining sleepers, a rear courtyard that needed privacy, and a front garden that had to fit around the owner’s own demolition work. After the build, the garden needed care that matched the owner’s taste: relaxed and natural rather than manicured.

Solution

We split the project into stages that suited the owner’s timing, and used rainwater from the existing tank to irrigate the rear beds. On maintenance visits we keep pruning soft and natural while staying on top of weeding, feeding, mulching and seasonal planting, so the garden keeps improving rather than just being kept tidy.
