Artificial turf path winding between mulched garden beds with rock edging, installed by GardenScaping

Artificial Turf

A green lawn with no mowing or watering - installed on a properly prepared base so it stays flat, drains well and looks natural.

When artificial turf makes sense

Artificial turf is a good answer where real grass struggles: deep shade, heavy dog traffic, small courtyards and narrow side paths, or for owners who simply don’t want to mow.

The difference between turf that looks great for years and turf that ripples, puddles or shows its joins is the installation: excavation, a compacted crushed-rock base, careful joining, secure edging and infill.

How it works

Our Process

  1. Assess

We check drainage, levels, sun and how the area is used, and confirm artificial turf is the right choice.

  2. Prepare the base

Excavation, compacted crushed rock and a weed barrier create a flat, free-draining foundation.

  3. Lay & finish

Turf is laid, joined, edged, infilled and brushed up for a natural look.

Good to know

Real lawn or artificial?

We install both, so here is the honest comparison.

No mowing or watering

Artificial turf stays green year-round with no mowing, feeding or irrigation.

Works in shade

Great under trees or in narrow, shaded spaces where real grass thins out.

Gets hot in summer

In direct summer sun synthetic turf gets much hotter than real grass. Shade helps.

Not a living surface

It doesn’t cool the garden or support soil life the way a real lawn does. For sunny areas, a well-chosen real lawn is often the better choice.

FAQ

Artificial Turf FAQs

Does artificial turf get hot?
Yes. In direct summer sun it can get far hotter than natural grass. Shade trees, shade sails or choosing real lawn for the sunniest areas all help.
How long does artificial turf last?
Many years, depending on the quality of the product, how heavily it’s used and how much direct sun it gets. A good base and installation make a big difference.
Is artificial turf good for dogs?
It can be. A free-draining base and regular rinsing are important, and it stands up to dog traffic that would wear out a real lawn.
Do I still need to maintain it?
A little. Occasional brushing, removing leaves and rinsing keep it looking its best.
